Maryland School Nutrition Association conference and this are my after thoughtsI figured it out (with the help of my wife) THE NEW FOOD TREND IS… Go natural. The less salt trend is not the same as the Zero Trans fat or less sugar food trends. With less salt MSG is going to have a come back. MSG is going to be or is already being repackaged as the Asian ancient wisdom of Umami, the untapped or understated wonder flavor. I was at a School Nutrition conference (more on that later) where the…See More

Uncle Moshe sings about eating healthy!

Posted on October 25, 2010 at 10:51am 2 Comments

I just returned from taking my 3 year old to see Uncle Moshe. (For those out there who do not know Uncle Moshe - he is a great young childrens entertainer. he has been aroun for at least 2 decades.) I was very impressed how he had not only has a Eat healthy song but had a skit with a Tooth mascot who encourageed bushing your teeth 2 times a day. Junk food and Soda sold at intermission - but the message is being spread - wonderful!

The same old big players are there but they are not servicing the food items that meet the modern school allergy, nutritional, quality concerns. The new guys don’t have distribution and the distributors are not going anymore. At… Continue

Hi Erick, great discussion you posted in the Institutional Foodservice group - I bet lots of other people share your frustrations. I would recommend posting that discussion on the main page as well so more people see it and can give you suggestions!

Thanks for being such an active member of the community!
