The holidays are over and if your like me, you cooked, baked and ate your way thru them. i love to celebrate the holiday seaon, but now my clothes are a little tight and I would love to have some great ideas for meals that don't cost alot but are healthy and can help me slim down for the dreaded summer bikini season.  I like quick and easy meals but am burnt out on salad. My Wii Fit this morning said it was suprised to see me, I haven't worked out in 52 days, I NEED HELP!! It's not good when you work with great food, love to cook and bake. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

I always grill up a bunch of chicken or steak at once, then freeze what I don't plan on eating right away. That way, when you're ready to make some stir fry or some kind of simple dish you can just thaw it out and heat it.

Also, instead of snacking on chips or sweets try grabbing some almonds. I eat them everyday and they are soooo good for you! Another way that a friend of mine slimmed down was by adding a lot of crushed ice to her beverages. That way you get less calories from the beverage (soda, juice, etc) and you actually burn calories by chomping on crushed ice.

Hope this helps!

My wife and I are trying a bunch of new things to help ourselves out. The fact that I can eat a large breakfast and lunch everyday has killed my waistline and I have vowed to lose it. I personally have resigned to eating Special K and Banana for breakfast with Fat Free Milk. And either soup and sandwich or a salad for lunch.

For both of us I am going alot less bread, frying etc.
I have started buying Whole Wheat Pasta (cant even tell the difference with a sauce on it)
No more hot dog or Hamburger buns - I buy those flat round whole grain hamburger "buns" for both (they roll up nicely for a hotdog)
I only make my burgers with a mixture of Turkey and Lean Beef, I tried just turkey but they were too dry. Just a small amount of beef made them so much better.

I am grilling alot more items even for pasta dishes (grilled chicken or flank steak with linguini or penne)
I am making more salads and Wraps for Dinner and avoiding deep fryed, or pan fried items.

We have done away with Chips and Cookies, and replaced them with

Wheat thins, ok ok ok, before anyone gets on me for eating wheat thins, the original ones are pretty bad, but they now make Roasted Garlic, Sun Dried Tomato, and Herb ones that are pretty darn tasty. We also snack on Nuts, and Tortilla Chips and Salsa that I make. If you buy the real Tortilla chips they are very low in fat and cholestoral.

The other little changes I have made is just increasing the vegetable on the plate and decreasing the starch.

Last night I made Grilled Chicken with Lime and Lemon Tyme Sauce, Mashed potatoes with Broccoli mashed in (awesome I swear!!!, Garlic, Salt and pepper, Smart Balance Butter, and 2% milk), and String Beans. I ended up using less potato and it was just as filling.

I refuse to go the Tofu and Vegetable route and give up my meats. I will have to see how my own diet works in a month or so.

5 Healthy Ways to Post-Holiday Detox

They have a lot of great tips on slimming down after the holidays. It's a good read! :)

I started on a diet in Sept.  I have lost 13 pounds and several inches and kept it off through the holidays.  The main way I kept it off was to eat smaller portions just till I felt satisfied and then when I need to snack on something I would try and grab a fruit or yogurt or granola bar.  I have also tried to exercise at least 3 times a week.  I did hear the Olong Tea, black pepper, and cinnamon help to get your metabolism start to help burn off the fat.  Hope this helps.

I love to bake too, it's like therapy, I try to find ways to modify favorite recipes to lighten them up.  Try using evaporated skim milk in cream sauces.  I also use it to make a simple bread pudding using mostly egg whites with whole grain bread and Sugar Free caramel ice cream topping in the bottom of the pan, when you flip a servng over it is like having a caramel roll without the guilt.

thanks for all the good advice, not the hard part, JUST DO IT!!!
